Know How:
I've worked not only as an assistant but as a photographer for 13 years and in that time I've had the opportunity to use a variety of equipment. The cameras that I find I work with most of the time now are Canon and Phase One/Hasselblad on still shoots. For Video I've been also using Canon as well as Sony EX-3's for zoom/focus control.
My experience with lighting both strobe and continuous, has been varied. Broncolor, Profoto and Speedotron are mostly what
I see for still while Mole, Kino-Flo and llowel for video.
The software I've been most familier with has been Capture One. Although Canon's proprietary DPP I see once in a while. Capture One at least in the Portland market seems to be most prevalent.
I weld and for awhile, I built camera car rigs for a group I work with frequently.
I've done everything from driving grip trucks, building sets, location scouting to assisting and shooting.
References as assistant / Career
After going to school in Chicago for photography I moved to Portland, OR and have been here for 16 years. In 1998 I started work full time as an assistant and did that for six years. At that point, I started shooting as an associate photographer for a crew that I work with most frequently. To date, I've filled my schedule with both shooting and assisting jobs. The last three years I've had the opportunity to work with more video than still, mostly on TV spots as a 'B' camera shooter. Currently I'd like to expand my client base by finding more assisting work.
